Being a take on Pinocchio where the lead character is incapable of ever becoming a real boy, Stanley Kubrick and Steven Spielberg's A.I.: Artificial Intelligence is a profoundly sad science-fiction fairy tale I keep coming back to and appreciating more every time I watch it.
